Pigmentation & Uneven Skin Tone

Skin Conditions – Pigmentation & Uneven Skin Tone

This is where the skin has darker or lighter spots of skin colour. Hyperpigmentation is darkened areas, Hypopigmentation is loss of skin colour. To me it creates more of an aged look than lines and wrinkles. The most common cause of this damage to the skin is UV (daylight, sunlight), Blue light damage from screens and mobile devices and injury. This is inflammatory pigmentation. Hormonal changes including pregnancy can cause passive pigmentation, which is more difficult to clear. There are also pigment changes which are due to autoimmune conditions.

The best approach to inflammatory pigmentation is always prevention – for example, use an SPF daily, don’t pick or squeeze spots, use computer screen protection.
